LUBABALO OSCAR MABUYANE
EASTERN CAPE PREMIER
Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane (born 24 February 1974 in Ngcobo, Eastern Cape, South Africa) is a South African politician and current Premier of the Eastern Cape. He spent his early schooling years at Zilimbola Junior Secondary School before moving to Gauteng, where he completed his matric at Lekoa Shandu High School in Sharpeville in 1995. In 1997, he enrolled at the University of Fort Hare, where he later obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Economics and became actively involved in student leadership.
During his time at university, Mabuyane rose through student political structures, serving as Branch Chairperson of the South African Students Congress (SASCO) in 1999 and later as President of the Student Representative Council (SRC) in 2000. His early leadership roles laid the foundation for his involvement in the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL), where he held several positions and contributed to youth political mobilisation in the Eastern Cape.
From 2002 to 2005, he served as Chief of Staff in the office of then MEC for Tourism, Economic Affairs and Finance, Enoch Godongwana. He later moved into the private sector, working as Managing Director of Ikamva Consulting from 2005 to 2009, where he gained experience in business strategy, project management, and economic development. During this period, he also continued his political work and, between 2008 and 2011, served as Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the ANCYL in the Eastern Cape.
