The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign is an annual programme, which seeks to elevate the awareness about the various forms of social ills targeted at women and children. This is a dedicated heightened awareness programme which commences on the 25th November to 10th December each year.
On this year's launch, Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, led the annual provincial launch of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women & Children campaign at Ezingqolweni Village near Cacadu (formerly Lady Frere) in the Emalahleni Local Municipality, under the Chris Hani District Municipality.
This year's programme is held under the national theme: The Year of Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke: Working Together to End Gender Based Violence & Femicide - Moving from Awareness to Accountability''.
The Provincial Government is calling on members of society, in particular men, to play a leading role in fighting against the scourge in the Eastern Cape - by supporting the #CountMeIn initiative.
The Provincial Government is also embarking on a public awareness drive on the dangers of bullying and online safety, especially of children who may be vulnerable to sexual predation and human trafficking.
