R225.8 million state-of-the-art ‘green office complex,’ in Maletswai

Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, together with MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Babalo Madikizela handed over a R225.8 million state-of-the-art ‘green office complex, in Maletswai (formerly Aliwal North) recently.


Earmarked to house five provincial government departments, the building named after the late respected public servant, Mr. Themba Kiro” Kojana, is part of the push to reduce Government's spending on office space rentals, while also making good on the electoral undertaking to decentralize public services to District and Local Municipalities.


The building construction is 100% complete, with 30% of the works done having been allocated to Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME s) in the construction sector, which included the Integrated Contractors Development Programme (ICDP) contractors, within the department s database in the Joe Gqabi District Municipality. This project has provided work to 132 people: 15 females, 51 males, with 18 benefitting from the Accelerated Professional Competency Development Programme (APTCoD), as well as 12 National Youth Service (NYS) learners.
