Residents located in the Chaba Administrative Area (ward 1) in Engcobo, can look forward to improved access, enhanced safety and new employment opportunities, following the official introduction of a contractor for the long-anticipated Chaba Bridge and Access Road Project.
Honourable Mayor, Cllr Siyabulela Zangqa, formally introduced the contractor to the community, marking a significant milestone in the Municipality s ongoing drive to improve infrastructure and service delivery.
The project, valued at R24 million, entails the construction of a new bridge and a 4.9-kilometre access road. Once completed, the infrastructure is expected to significantly improve connectivity, ease of movement and road safety for residents and road users, while also enhancing access to essential government services and stimulating local economic activity in the area.
Construction is anticipated to take approximately twelve (12) months and is expected to create employment opportunities for around twenty (20) local residents, ensuring meaningful community participation throughout the project lifecycle.
Addressing community members, Mayor Zangqa indicated that the project originated from requests raised by residents during the Municipality s Integrated Development Plan (IDP) roadshows, highlighting the importance of public participation in shaping development priorities.
The Municipality will continue to engage with residents to address other matters that require attention,” said Mayor Zangqa.
He further noted that the development represents a major step forward in reinforcing the Municipality s commitment to infrastructure investment, inclusive growth and improved living conditions for communities across the area.
