The King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality has taken a significant step to strengthen service delivery across its communities following the acquisition of a new fleet of 34 vehicles valued at R75 million. The investment, unveiled by Mayor Councillor Nyaniso Nelani, is set to boost municipal operations and enhance service delivery in both rural and urban wards.
The diverse fleet includes excavators, graders, minibuses, bakkies, tractors, sedans, and other specialised vehicles designed to respond to the municipality s operational needs. Mayor Nelani said the new additions will bolster key services such as road construction and maintenance, support critical municipal functions, and improve overall responsiveness to community needs.
In a parallel development, the O.R. Tambo District Municipality, led by Executive Mayor Councillor Mesuli Ngqondwana, has also strengthened its emergency response capacity with the handover of five new Disaster Management vehicles. The fleet forms part of the district s preparedness efforts ahead of the festive season and beyond, ensuring teams can respond swiftly to emergencies.
The district leadership emphasised that while disasters strike without warning, readiness must never lag. To further support its disaster response strategy, the municipality conducted a walkabout of its nearly completed Disaster Management Centre. The modern facility will serve as a central hub for coordinating emergency response efforts across the district.
Together, the fleet investments by KSD and O.R. Tambo District Municipalities mark a renewed commitment to enhanced service delivery, improved infrastructure maintenance, and strengthened disaster preparedness for communities across the region.
