The Eastern Cape proudly partnered with naamsa - The Automotive Business Council to host South African Auto Week 2025, a landmark event that reinforced the province s position as South Africa s premier automotive hub and a key player in the global motoring industry. Held at Coega Vulindlela Village in Gqeberha from 1 3 October, the showcase formed part of the country s Transport Month activities and brought together automotive leaders, government officials, investors, and stakeholders from across the value chain.
The week featured dynamic discussions on innovation, policy frameworks, and global best practices shaping the industry s future. Exhibition halls buzzed with activity, displaying everything from futuristic concept cars and cutting-edge electric vehicles to timeless classics. Among the global brands present were Ford, BMW, Volkswagen, BAIC, Isuzu, Volvo, Mahindra, Hyundai, Chery, Suzuki, Kia, Renault, and Mitsubishi.
Acting Premier Mlungisi Mvoko highlighted the immense importance of the automotive industry to the Eastern Cape, describing it as a source of thousands of jobs, significant investments, and critical skills for communities. While noting global threats such as trade tariffs, he reaffirmed the province s commitment to advocating for policy certainty and competitiveness.
A central theme of the week was the rise of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). To prepare for this future, the AIDC-EC has already established a network of 15 new AC and DC EV charging stations across the province by March 2025. Furthermore, investor partner Zero Carbon Charge has pledged R11.4 billion to build 29 off-grid charging stations over the next five years, significantly bolstering NEV demand stimulation,” said Acting Premier Mvoko.
By convening the entire automotive value chain under one roof, SA Auto Week 2025 positioned the Eastern Cape at the forefront of conversations on innovation, sustainability, and industrial growth.
