Alfred Nzo District Municipality Handover Marks Major Step in Clean Water Delivery

The Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM), in partnership with Matatiele Local Municipality (MLM), has officially handed over the Fobane Water Scheme Phase 3 (Contract 2), a major water infrastructure project valued at R53 million. The initiative will provide clean, drinkable water to around 24,000 households across five villages in the Matatiele Municipality.

The project is expected to create employment opportunities for 30 local residents and support local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Construction is anticipated to be completed within 18 months.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Cllr. Sobane Mnukwa, ANDM Acting Executive Mayor, stressed the importance of collaboration between government departments and local communities in delivering essential services. Matatiele Local Municipality Mayor Cllr. Patrick Stuurman encouraged residents to ensure the project s sustainability and explore opportunities for agricultural development in the area.

The ceremony brought together traditional leaders, municipal officials, and councillors from both municipalities, underlining the commitment to promoting sustainable development while addressing basic service delivery needs.

The Fobane Water Scheme Phase 3 represents a significant step towards improving access to clean water in the Alfred Nzo District and demonstrates the municipalities focus on community-driven development and long-term socio-economic growth.
