In a powerful demonstration of collaboration between local government and the private sector, Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Nomhle Sango, joined Enel Green Power in handing over full sportswear kits to local football and netball teams during a ceremony held at the Msobombu Community Hall in Bedford.
The handover forms part of a broader initiative to promote youth development and social cohesion through sport. Beneficiaries of the donation included 12 netball teams and 9 football teams in the Bedford area, as well as Ntlama Primary School, which received full kits for its rugby, soccer, and netball teams.
In her keynote address, Mayor Sango praised the initiative as a positive step toward uplifting communities and supporting youth through meaningful activities. She highlighted the importance of multi-sector partnerships in addressing local needs and improving quality of life.
"Collaborations between local government, private sector entities, and community organisations are essential in meeting our citizens' social and economic needs. Through initiatives such as this, we can empower our youth, encourage social cohesion, and create stronger, more resilient communities", she said
Mayor Sango also lauded Enel Green Power for its dedication to corporate social responsibility, noting that the company s involvement in community development sets a valuable example.
