Cebe Clinic Signals Major Healthcare Push in Eastern Cape

A bold new era for rural healthcare in the Eastern Cape continues, as Department of Health MEC Ntandokazi Capa introduced a construction company that will work on the building of new state of art Cebe Clinic in Centane. The facility set to cost R64 million is part of the province s broader initiative to replace outdated health infrastructures and improve access to quality healthcare service.

The new clinic will bring modern medical amenities close to the people, reducing travel time and easing the burden on overstretched regional hospitals.

The development forms part of a sweeping infrastructure overhaul being undertaken by the Provincial Government, which has committed over R2.4 billion to replacing old and dilapidated facilities across the province. This includes the reconstruction of Greenville Hospital in Bizana launched recently, a project set to transform the healthcare landscape for the OR Tambo District by restoring dignity and ensuring quality services for rural communities.

Other hospitals receiving major upgrades include Libode Mental Hospital, Bambisana Hospital, and Zithulele Hospital, all of which are being modernised to meet current healthcare demands.

Meanwhile, in Whittlesea, plans are progressing for the rebuilding of Hewu Hospital, with a full-scale construction project scheduled for 2026/27 financial year and will be implemented in phases.

These initiatives reflect a long-term commitment by the provincial government to bridge healthcare disparities and build a resilient, people-centered health system.
