Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane delivered a keynote address at the Freedom Day Celebrations, where he paid tribute to the legacy of uTata Alfred Nzo South Africa s first black Minister of Foreign Affairs. As the centenary of this iconic leader is commemorated, Premier Mabuyane emphasized that his legacy serves as a powerful reminder of the work that still lies ahead.
He also spoke to the Matatiele community, pledging decisive action to tackle poverty, unemployment, and Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), while fast-tracking youth empowerment, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, agriculture, and improved access to water throughout the Alfred Nzo District.
He also spotlighted several key initiatives:
R1.29 billion allocated for education infrastructure
R180 million dedicated to upgrading hospitals
R113 million invested in clean water access
Over R15 million committed to agricultural projects
Support for youth enterprises and alignment with TVET programmes
We must move from dialogue to delivery from promises to progress.”
The day ended still on a high note, as Premier Mabuyane, MEC Siphokazi Lusithi & MEC Nonceba Kontsiwe handed over legacy projects including locally authored books, blankets, learn to swim equipment, and dignity packs empowering and supporting skills development across the region.
