President Cyril Ramaphosa has concluded a two-day oversight visit to the Eastern Cape Province, emphasising the critical role of the Port of Ngqura in South Africa s economic landscape and reinforcing the importance of intergovernmental cooperation for effective service delivery.
The visit, saw the President and his Cabinet engage with provincial leadership on strategies to enhance port operations, improve service delivery, and align provincial priorities with national objectives.
Day one of the visit was dedicated to the Port of Ngqura, a state-of-the-art deep-water port strategically positioned within the Coega Special Economic Zone. President Ramaphosa, accompanied by Ministers and Deputy Ministers, received a comprehensive briefing from Transnet leadership on the port's current operations, ongoing projects, and future plans to optimize its efficiency.
The second day shifted focus to intergovernmental relations, with President Ramaphosa and Cabinet meeting with Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane and his Executive Council. The meeting provided a platform for robust discussions on a range of issues facing the province, including initiatives to improve service delivery at local government level. President Ramaphosa emphasised the importance of aligning provincial priorities with the national agenda of the 7th Administration, stressing the need for a cohesive and collaborative approach to tackling the country's socio-economic challenges.
Premier Mabuyane welcomed the President's visit, stating, This visit is valuable for the Eastern Cape. It has provided us with an opportunity to directly engage with the President and his Cabinet on the challenges and opportunities within our province. We appreciate the focus on the Port of Ngqura and the commitment to working together to improve service delivery and drive economic growth in the Eastern Cape.”
The Provincial Government is committed to strengthening collaboration with national government and ensuring that the Eastern Cape plays its full role in the national development agenda.
