The R97.6 billion budget targets social upliftment, infrastructure, job creation, and aims to build a more resilient and equitable province.
Allocations have been strategically directed across key sectors, with social protection receiving the largest share, bolstered by significant investments in education and health. Meanwhile a R16.4 billion investment in the Economic Sector cluster signals commitment to job creation and economic expansion. Infrastructure development is a cornerstone, with major investments in roads, rail, ports, water, energy, and social infrastructure like schools and hospitals.
This budget highlights the Eastern Cape's encouraging employment trends in key sectors like trade, manufacturing, and construction, partly driven by ongoing infrastructure projects. Targeted support for SMMEs and youth is prominent, with funds directed to business development, sector-specific initiatives, and job creation programmes, including youth employment in agriculture and infrastructure. Good governance and accountability have also been prioritised through investments in digital infrastructure and public service professionalisation.
The Eastern Cape budget presents a strategic and hopeful vision, accentuating efficient resource management and targeted investment to drive inclusive growth and a brighter future for citizens.
