Young entrepreneurs in the Eastern Cape are thriving, thanks to Isiqalo Youth Fund; a Provincial Government initiative aimed at empowering youth-owned businesses and driving economic growth. In his recent State of the Province Address, Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane praised the programme s impact and announced a substantial R168 million injection over the next three years to expand its reach. This week, the fund provided a game-changing R2 million boost to two rising business owners; Nandipha Oliphant and Athenkosi Zinganto.
Oliphant, 28, is the founder of Lupha Enterprise (PTY) LTD, a trucking and freight company based in Cacadu (formerly Lady Frere). She received a Power Star truck worth R1.2 million, a key investment that will strengthen her company s role in transporting agricultural produce, especially citrus from local farms to the Port of Gqeberha for export. Breaking barriers in the traditionally male dominated transport industry, Oliphant s 100% youth- and Black-owned business is poised for significant growth.
This truck will expand our operational capacity and help us meet the rising demand for our services,” she said.
Similarly, 32-year-old Athenkosi Zinganto, is making strides in the construction industry. His company, Zinganto Electrical and Construction Pty Ltd, based in Ncorha, Cofimvaba, received a bakkie and equipment valued at R800 000 to enhance its services. Specializing in home renovations, carpentry, plumbing, and utility installations, Zinganto sees the funding as a turning point.
This support will streamline operations and enable us to take on larger projects,” he noted.
Premier Mabuyane reaffirmed government s commitment to youth entrepreneurship, stating, Increasing the fund to R168 million reflects our dedication to empowering young business leaders who are driving economic development in the Eastern Cape.”
With continued investment, Isiqalo Youth Fund is set to shape a dynamic and inclusive economic future for the province.
