The Eastern Cape Provincial Government is making significant strides in housing delivery, with recent initiatives aimed at providing secure homes and improving living conditions for residents across the province. This week, Human Settlements MEC Siphokazi Lusithi Mani, handed over 247 title deeds to families in Tambo Village, Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, marking a pivotal moment of homeownership and security for the beneficiaries.

This handover is part of a broader push by the provincial government to address housing needs and uplift communities. Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, during his recent State of the Province Address, highlighted the successful delivery of 255 houses in the past year to former farm dwellers in Stutterheim and Katberg.

Among those receiving homes were a particularly vulnerable child-headed household, comprising four siblings who had lost their parents, demonstrating the government's commitment to supporting the most vulnerable.

The provincial government emphasizes the importance of housing in enabling people to build stable lives. Looking ahead, Premier Mabuyane has announced ambitious housing plans for the 2025/26 financial year, committing to deliver 4,970 housing units and develop 4,350 serviced sites across the province. This forms part of a substantial R4.3 billion investment over the next five years, aimed at constructing 26,400 new homes throughout the Eastern Cape.

These housing initiatives represent a key focus area for the Provincial Government, demonstrating a concerted effort to tackle housing backlogs and create sustainable communities.
