The South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired (SASSA-II) National Championships, held this week in Gqeberha, has proven to be an unforgettable showcase of talent, determination, and fellowship. Learners with intellectual impairments from across the country participated in various sporting codes, including athletics, basketball, cross country, futsal, and netball, demonstrating their exceptional skills and abilities.
Spearheaded by the National Department of Basic Education and the Provincial Education Department, the showcase saw the Eastern Cape team shining with accolades in several codes, including the boys' basketball team and futsal team clinching first prizes. Overall, Team Eastern Cape won 11 gold medals and 2 silver medals, making them the national champions of the tournament.
