The Ngqushwa Local Municipality has reached an important infrastructure milestone with the official handover of the Tuku B Community Hall, delivering a much-needed community facility that will provide residents with a dedicated space for public meetings, ward engagements and community development initiatives.
The handover, led by Acting Mayor Councillor Nomzamo Mtati, accompanied by Ward 6 Councillor N. Lawu, Councillor P. Nkulwana, municipal officials and community members, marks the realisation of a need identified by the community and reinforces the importance of responsive, community-centred development.
The facility is expected to serve as a central meeting point where residents can engage on issues affecting their ward, exchange ideas, participate in local development processes and strengthen relationships within the community.
Addressing residents during the handover, Councillor Mtati emphasised that the project was informed by a need raised by the community, underscoring the importance of ensuring that public infrastructure responds to the lived realities of the people it is intended to serve.
She called on residents to take collective responsibility for protecting and maintaining the facility, urging them to use it responsibly, follow the established procedures when applying for its use, and guard against vandalism and damage.
“The construction of this hall was driven by a need identified by the community. I urge residents to take ownership of this facility by using it responsibly, following the established procedures when applying to use the hall, and protecting it against vandalism and damage,” said Councillor Mtati.
She further stressed the importance of preserving the facility so that it remains a valuable resource for both current and future generations.
The successful completion of the project reflects the contribution of the various stakeholders involved in bringing the facility to fruition. Project contractor Alomna Construction and engineering and construction consultancy firm Vuxaka Consulting provided feedback on the work undertaken, highlighting the collaboration that supported the delivery of the project.
For residents, the handover represents more than the opening of a physical structure; it marks the fulfilment of a long-awaited community need.
Community representative Mr Vukile Mbemba welcomed the facility, expressing appreciation for the project and the opportunities it presents for residents.
“At long last, our dream has become a reality,” he said.
His remarks captured the significance of the occasion for the community, where the new hall is expected to provide a shared space for engagement, collective action and local initiatives.
The handover of the Tuku B Community Hall forms part of Ngqushwa Local Municipality’s efforts to address community-identified infrastructure needs and create spaces that support local participation and development.
Beyond its physical structure, the facility offers an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the Municipality and residents by providing a venue for dialogue, consultation and community-based activities. Its effective use and continued maintenance will be essential to ensuring that it delivers lasting value.
Guided by its motto, “Sikhula Simanyene – Growing Together,” the Municipality continues to emphasise the importance of working alongside communities to advance local development and promote social cohesion.
The Tuku B Community Hall now stands as a shared community asset, with its long-term value resting not only in its construction, but also in how residents use, protect and sustain it for generations to come.
