Eastern Cape Sets Ambitious Path for Export-Led Growth at Annual Symposium

The 6th Eastern Cape Export Symposium and Exhibition in East London charted the course for the province's push for export-led economic growth. Local businesses, like Mdantsane based youth-led clothing company Head Band Papi (HBP), showcased their diverse range of fashion items, including headbands, caps, and sportswear.

Beyond exhibiting their products, business owners like HBP brand's founder, Yemihle Ndadlana, gained valuable exposure to international trade insights through workshops. These sessions were designed to equip entrepreneurs with skills and knowledge necessary to navigate global trade, covering topics such as international banking, product pitching, and rules of origin.

"This platform is an incredible opportunity for me to network, expand my business and reach new markets. I am hopeful that this whole experience will open doors I never imagined," said Ndadlana.

Led by the Eastern Cape Development Corporation, the two-day event themed "Think Eastern Cape: Think Opportunities" united government leaders, global trade officials, and industry stakeholders. The focus was on leveraging South Africa's trade agreements, with special attention to key sectors like Cannabis & Biofibre, Agriculture, Automotive, and Renewables. Experts highlighted sector status, opportunities, challenges, and resources to foster investments.

Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane stated that the province is investing in infrastructure upgrades like ports and railways, which are essential for efficient trade, to support its export ambitions. Alongside other government leaders, he urged participants to collaborate in driving the province's economic success.

"The success of our province depends on collaboration between government, industry, and civil society. We must work together to ensure the Eastern Cape thrives and its people benefit from the opportunities ahead”, he said.
