Eastern Cape Government hands over key infrastructure projects to accelerate service delivery

The Eastern Cape Provincial Government has been hard at work this past week with the handing over of yet another school facility as well as facilitating a ministerial visit which sought to monitor progress with some of the SANRAL-managed road infrastructure projects.

The newly constructed Sophathisana Senior Secondary School was handed over by Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane at Reeston in East London, addressing a long-standing need within the community and marking a significant milestone in the journey towards accessible education. This project is a testament to the Eastern Cape Provincial Government's commitment to invest in the future of its youth. The government aims to accelerate progress and ensure that every learner has access to the tools for success.

For years, families in Reeston faced inadequate educational resources and facilities, and the burden of sending their children to schools in distant areas. However, the construction of this state-of-the-art institution equipped with modern facilities and amenities has provided the community with access to quality education and endless opportunities for its youth.

Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga is currently in the province to oversee the progress of the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) road infrastructure initiatives in the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality. With an investment of R3 billion, SANRAL aims to enhance connectivity and accessibility in the Eastern Cape, which is crucial for economic growth and community development.

The Minister was accompanied by Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, Executive Council Members, Buffalo City Mayor Princess Faku, as well as SANRAL Board members. Some of the projects visited include the N2 Belstone and Breidbach interchanges construction along the N2 near Qonce, road improvement along N2 from the Green River to the Buffalo River, adjacent to the Engen fuel station exit towards Ngqushwa (Peddie), as well as Ginsberg Road Community Development.

Premier Mabuyane said The Eastern Cape Provincial Government, through its entity SANRAL, is working tirelessly to prioritize infrastructure development in the province. These initiatives not only benefit motorists but also contribute to the overall improvement of the quality of life for residents.”
