Premier Mabuyane Paving the Way for Renewable Energy Transition
Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, recently welcomed the German Special Envoy, Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), to explore potential cooperation between the Eastern Cape Province and Germany. The aim is to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, given the Eastern Cape's significant renewable energy potential.

The discussions focused on leveraging the JETP's resources to bolster the province's renewable energy agenda by tapping into Germany's expertise and support. The Eastern Cape's participation in the JETP represents a significant opportunity to harness international support for its renewable energy endeavours. With Germany's backing, the province can accelerate its transition to a more sustainable energy landscape, unlocking economic opportunities and fostering environmental stewardship.

Premier Mabuyane's engagement with Dr. Baake follows earlier discussions with the Secretary of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Mr. Jochen Flasbarth, during a visit to Berlin last November. These exchanges laid the groundwork for deeper collaboration on an existing relationship between the Eastern Cape and Germany in advancing renewable energy solutions.

The JETP is a collaborative initiative involving South Africa, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the European Union. It aims to facilitate transitions to renewable energy and sustainable development, supporting regions and countries in achieving their energy transition goals. The discussions between the Eastern Cape and JETP demonstrate the province s commitment to sustainable development and its willingness to explore international partnerships to achieve its goals.
