The Eastern Cape Provincial Government's initiative to bolster healthcare services with an additional 73 essential mobile clinics and specialised dental units reflects a significant step towards advancing the goals of the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme.
A total of 61 mobile clinics and 12 dental mobile vehicles have been dispatched to communities across the province. This is an addition to the 54 mobile clinics that were handed over last year. These are furnished with examination couches, blood pressure machines, diagnostic sets, refrigeration units for storing vaccines, adult and children's scales, water dispensers, oxygen supplies, examination lamps, and secure containers for medicines.
Speaking during the handover, Health MEC Nomakhosazana Meth emphasised the importance of mobile clinics in reaching out to remote areas and meeting the healthcare needs of the expanding population effectively.
By prioritising primary healthcare and addressing infrastructure gaps, this move demonstrates the government s commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services for all citizens, especially those in rural communities.
