Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane expressed his elation at the Springbok on
their historic Rugby World Cup 2023 triumph over New Zealand which makes South Africa
the first country crowned the world rugby champs four times.
The Siya Kolisi led Springboks completed a successful defense of its Rugby World Cup title
with a 12-11 victory over the All Black during the finals at the Stade de France recently.
On behalf of the Eastern Cape Provincial Government, Premier Mabuyane welcomed the
historic victory and congratulated the broader squad and the management of the team for
their spectacular showcase of South African rugby prowess.
This is a historic moment for South Africa. This moment will always be embedded forever in
our national memory. A huge congratulations to the entire Springboks squad. The success is
a testament to your dedication, discipline and athletic ability. Your win is a true reflection of
your determination, hard work and a competitive spirit. We couldn t be prouder of your
achievement”, Mabuyane said.
The Premier shared his appreciation of Eastern Cape citizens who not only braved the cold-
rainy weather to watch the Springboks at various fan-parks but have been supporting the
team since the start of the tournament, responding to the national call.
The historic win has been achieved with the passionate support of all the South Africans
who have been inspired by the Springboks performances throughout the tournament. From
the property owners who opened their spaces for communities to watch to the school
management teams who mobilised young minds in support of the National Flag. It has been
beautiful to watch,” Mabuyane added.
Springboks success is a moment of inspiration for all South Africans in all avenues of life and
all sectors of our society.
