Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane is currently leading Eastern Cape delegates on an official outbound investment promotion visit which commenced in Tunisia from 09 September and will conclude in Egypt this coming Wednesday, 20 September 2023.
The visit is part of the provincial drive to position itself in markets in the African continent, leverage exponential growth in trade and investment opportunities which emanate from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in line with Premier Mabuyane s pronouncements during this year s State of the Province Address.
The delegation will participate in several activities including meeting key role players in the two countries economies which will focus on agriculture, maritime sector, trade and investment. Commitments made in these engagements are intended to have spinoffs for mutual cooperation amongst businesses and further stimulate provision of jobs in diverse sectors of the economy.
Furthermore, an MOU between the Eastern Cape and the Tunisian South-East Region Chambers of Commerce and Industry will also be signed. In Egypt, Premier and his delegation will engage the business community and possible potential investors with a view to source best practices in the aquaculture sector. The visit is also aimed at forging links, benchmarking in the development of the Eastern Seaboard with the Egyptian New Administrative Capital and foster partnerships on smart city solutions. To this end, the Eastern Cape Government is committed to work with all relevant stakeholders including international partners to improve the socio-economic development of the people of the province through the Eastern Seaboard.
The development is line with the District Development Model and Wild Coast Corridor development which starts from Amathole District, OR Tambo District up to the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, with Port St Johns earmarked as a key focus area. The visit is intended to attract investment and assist the Eastern Cape to strengthen its comparative advantage, serve as a catalyst to unlock the province s economy, address poverty and unemployment.
