Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane led the Provincial Government in forging action towards accelerating
women s socio-economic emancipation and empowerment during the Women s Day celebrations at KwaNombanjana village in Centane, Amathole District Municipality.
The programme was used as a platform for women, government, and other relevant stakeholders to discuss issues relating to the acceleration of socioeconomic programmes and creating more opportunities for the advancement of
women in the province. They shared best practices and exchanged ideas on how to penetrate the business sector, secure funding as well as identified development and training opportunities within the economic transformation context.
The celebrations highlighted the contribution of women to the liberation struggle and addressed the challenges they face including the growing scourge of Gender Based Violence and Femicide(GBVF).
Women s Day is in honour and memory of women s struggles and successes since that fateful day in 1956, when South African women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against laws.
