BUFFALO CITY METRO HANDS OVER NEW SPECIALISED FLEET TO STRENGTHEN WASTE MANAGEMENT SERVICES

The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, led by Mayor Princess Faku, has unveiled a newly procured specialised fleet to strengthen its waste management capacity and improve service delivery across the Metro. The investment, made during the 2025/2026 financial year, aims to equip municipal teams with the necessary resources to maintain clean, safe and healthy communities.

The fleet was unveiled during the handover of the Solid Waste and Environmental Management Project, held at Gonubie Resort. The acquisition forms part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve refuse collection, combat illegal dumping and promote environmental cleanliness across its communities.

The newly procured fleet comprises 10 compactor trucks, one tipper truck and one landfill compactor truck. These vehicles are expected to strengthen the municipality’s operational capacity, improve daily waste collection and support the delivery of efficient and sustainable waste management services.

Speaking during the event, Mayor Faku emphasised that the investment reflected the municipality’s commitment to improving basic service delivery and ensuring that residents live in clean, healthy and safe environments.

“Today is more than a ceremonial handover of vehicles and machinery. It is a demonstration of our commitment in building a municipality that responds to the needs of its people, restores dignity to our communities and ensures that every resident can live in a clean, healthy and safe environment,” said Mayor Faku.

Mayor Faku further highlighted the importance of strengthening municipal resources to ensure reliable and efficient waste management services. She called on residents, community members and local businesses to work together with the municipality to combat illegal dumping and take collective responsibility for keeping neighbourhoods clean and safe.

The unveiling of the specialised fleet demonstrates Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality’s continued commitment to strengthening its operational capacity and improving environmental management. Through this investment, the Metro aims to enhance refuse collection, promote responsible waste disposal and improve the quality of life of communities across the city.
