As part of the district’s commemoration of Integrated Public Service Month, Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) leadership took to the ground recently to assess progress on the Fobane Water Supply Phase 2(Two), Contract 2(Two) project in the Matatiele Local Municipality.
Led by Executive Mayor. Tsileng Sobuthongo, alongside Deputy Executive Mayor. Nomasomi Mshuqwana, Matatiele Local Municipality Mayor. Patrick Stuurman, and Members of the Mayoral Committee, the oversight visit reaffirmed the government's commitment to delivering reliable, basic services directly to communities.
Backed by a R53.8 million investment, the project is designed to deliver a sustainable water supply scheme to nine villages across Wards 15, 18, 23, and 24. Beyond the essential provision of water, the infrastructure development has actively stimulated the local economy by creating employment for 31 local residents during its implementation phase
The project currently stands at an overall completion rate of 79.33%. Key structural milestones include: 21.7 km of bulk water pipeline and a 15 km reticulation network have been constructed, 65 standpipes are planned, with 29 already installed, alongside marker posts tracking the pipeline route, 74 valves and associated works have been constructed, while the development of a booster pump station is currently 20% complete and construction has begun on a 1-megalitre concrete reservoir at the Kinira Water Treatment Works, currently at 10% completion.
The site visits underscored ANDM's ongoing mandate to monitor public resources and ensure infrastructure interventions accurately respond to community needs.

By engaging directly with project stakeholders and local communities during the visit, municipal leaders were able to assess service delivery firsthand and identify targeted areas requiring attention to push this critical water project toward successful completion.
