In a powerful demonstration of government at work, the Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM), working alongside provincial and local leaders, has successfully rolled out a series of life-changing service delivery initiatives across Matatiele and Mbizana. Led by Executive Mayor Tsileng Sobuthongo, the recent joint handovers focused on restoring dignity to vulnerable citizens through permanent housing, essential household items, and enterprise opportunities. These critical interventions targeted those most in need, including child-headed households, the elderly, survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and military veterans.
In Matatiele’s Sekete Village, the housing drive brought crucial stability to 34-year-old Sibusisiwe Msizi and her three sisters. Following the passing of their mother, the orphaned sisters received a fully furnished home through the Maluti 200 Rural Housing Project. Overwhelmed with emotion, Msizi noted that the house brings profound relief, dignity, and a true sense of home to her family.
A similar handover took place in Nyanzela Village, bringing relief to 82-year-old Gogo Mini Magusha Albertina, who received a completed RDP house under the Mehloloaneng 254 Rural Housing Project. To further support her household, which relies on an old-age grant, the municipality is actively coordinating with the Department of Home Affairs to fast-track birth registration documents for her 14-year-old grandchild, unlocking access to vital social support.
Moving beyond shelter, the municipality has also prioritized sustainable economic empowerment. In Ward 10 of Sijoka Village, Mayor Sobuthongo presented a fully equipped spaza shop container to 44-year-old Thulisile Victoria Khawuleza. As an unemployed GBV survivor living with physical impairments stemming from past abuse, this retail unit provides her with a sustainable economic lifeline and a fresh start to rebuild her life.
These interventions underscore a broader strategic vision to increase local participation in the retail sector and open practical business pathways for women and persons with disabilities. By prioritizing both social infrastructure and localized economic empowerment, the government continues its steadfast commitment to turning service delivery into meaningful change, strengthening livelihoods and bringing renewed hope to households across the Alfred Nzo District.
