EASTERN CAPE STRENGTHENS RURAL EDUCATION WITH HANDOVER OF JONGIMISHINI PRIMARY SCHOOL

The Eastern Cape Department of Education has marked another milestone in its commitment to providing dignified and quality learning environments with the official handover of the newly built Jongimishini Primary School in Tsomo, Chris Hani East District.

The handover, led by Education MEC Fundile Gade, forms part of the provincial government's ongoing programme to eradicate inappropriate school infrastructure and ensure that learners have access to safe, modern and conducive spaces for teaching and learning.

The newly completed facility replaces dilapidated structures that had served the community for many years and ushers in a new era for learners and educators alike. Community members, traditional leaders, education stakeholders and government representatives gathered to witness the occasion, which was characterised by vibrant cultural performances and a strong sense of pride.

Speaking during the handover, MEC Gade emphasised that quality infrastructure is central to improving educational outcomes. "Our responsibility is to ensure that every child learns in an environment that promotes dignity, safety and academic excellence. The completion of Jongimishini Primary School is a demonstration of government's commitment to building a better future for our children," said Gade.

The school community expressed appreciation for the investment, noting that the new infrastructure will significantly enhance the learning experience and restore hope among learners and parents.

Ward Councillor Vuyo Dinga described the occasion as a historic moment for the area. "This is a day of joy for the community. We are grateful that our children will now receive their education in facilities that reflect the value we place on their future," he said.

The handover forms part of the Eastern Cape Government's broader efforts to improve access to quality education and create enabling environments where learners can thrive.
