Botha Sigcau Update: Happening Now at Kaiser Daliwonga Matanzima Conference Hall, Mthatha, the Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is convening a Provincial Labour Information Sharing Session regarding the Botha Sigcau Fire Incident.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Director-General: Corporate Services, Lindelwa Dakada from the Office of the Premier is aimed at providing an interim situational report as of 27 March 2026.
The meeting is attended by the following Labour union representatives: Denosa, Nehawu, Provincial office of PSA, South African Democratic Teacher's union (SADTU) and POPCRU to name a few.
The session will provide an update on workstream coordination and report on progress made thus far pertaining to business continuity after the Botha Sigcau incident.
In terms of business continuity, a team of technical professionals from Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has conducted assessments of the identified buildings intended to accommodate government departments.
Upon completion of these assessments, a comprehensive report will be shared with all stakeholders, outlining the allocation of office spaces. One-on-one consultations with affected government departments are also taking place just to ensure that their specific operational needs are adequately addressed.
Affected government departments include Education, Agriculture, Deeds Office, Human Settlements, Social Development, Health, DSRAC (Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture), COGTA, Office of the Premier, SAPS and Transport
