The Eastern Cape Provincial Government has recently delivered a powerful boost to youth entrepreneurship through its Isiqalo Youth Fund, injecting over R3 million in combined support to young, black-owned enterprises across province.
In the Amathole District, Salca 0914 Investments (Pty) Ltd, a Butterworth based furniture manufacturing business owned by Anele Sibulele Mtsi, received support valued at over R1.2 million. The package included a sliding panel sawing machine, stock, table-tops, and edging materials, aimed at increasing production capacity, improving efficiency, and sustaining six jobs.
Further support in Butterworth was extended to Nezisa Sogoni Poultry Farm. The enterprise, owned by 30-year-old Nezisa Sogoni, received R500,000 worth of inputs, including feed, vaccines, poultry structures, and a backup generator. Specialising in broiler production, the business contributes to local food security while supporting two jobs and positioning itself for growth.
In the Chris Hani District Municipality, Blacknest (Pty) Ltd, a youth-owned insurance company based in Queenstown, received R800,000 in the form of three sedan vehicles. Led by Tsepile Sehlabaka and partners, the business can now expand services into rural areas, improving access and enhancing operations for its 16 employees. Speaking at the official handover, Enoch Mgijima Municipality Executive Mayor Madoda Papiyana highlighted the importance of innovation and competitiveness, encouraging the business to expand its footprint and create more opportunities for local communities.
Furthermore, in Mdantsane, Plan B (Pty) Ltd received industrial sewing machines valued at approximately R500,000, boosting garment production capacity. Meanwhile, Thanda Isizwe Investments, trading as Gas Champs, received gas cylinders worth about R100,000, strengthening LPG supply in the Buffalo City Metro.
Facilitated through the Office of the Premier, these interventions highlight a coordinated effort to drive enterprise development, create jobs, and advance inclusive economic growth. Isiqalo Youth Fund continues to play a vital role in empowering young entrepreneurs across the Eastern Cape.
