Special Provincial Funeral for the late Traditional Xhosa Music Icon Dr Latozi "Madosini" Mpahleni in Libode
Crowds gathered at Mkankatho Village in Libode, to pay their last respects to the international icon and queen of IsiXhosa music, Dr Latozi Madosini Mpahleni. Dr Mpahleni who was been accorded a Special Provincial Official Funeral Category: 2 (Two) was laid to rest at her home village of Mkhankatho in Libode on Saturday, 07 January 2023. The internationally acclaimed singer and songwriter Madosini as she was professionally and affectionately known recently passed away at the age of seventy-nine (79) following a lengthy illness.

Dr. Mpahleni will be remembered as a legend who promoted indigenous Xhosa traditional instruments as well as music to the country and the world. As a global champion and ambassador of African traditional music and its heritage Madosini has over the years wowed audiences with her prowess playing traditional indigenous instruments uhadi and umrhubhe musical bows as well as isitolotolo.

During his delivery of the eulogy, Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane emphasised the significance of nurturing the young talent that Madosini has unearthed to preserve IsiXhosa music heritage and ensure that her legacy lives on.

In September the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture honored Madosini in the third edition of the Van Toeka AF Living Legends Recognition Series event that took place in Mkhankatho, Libode.

Madosini s illustrious career in the music industry has earned her respect from the young and old. Rhodes University also recognised her artistry with an honorary doctorate.
