Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane led the annual provincial launch of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women & Children campaign at KwaNonkqubela Township in Alexandria in the Ndlambe Local Municipality - Sarah Baartman District Municipality.
This year s awareness campaign is held under the national theme: SocioEconomic Rights and Empowerment to build Women s Resilience against Gender Based Violence and Femicide: Connect, Collaborate, Contract!”
Sarah Baartman District Municipality has been earmarked to host the launch due to the extent of gender-based violence incidents that continue to wreak havoc in the area, especially within the host Local Municipality, Ndlambe. The provincial government uses this programme as a platform to call on men, boys and society at large to take a stand, raise awareness as well as participate in the efforts that seek to eradicate the scourge of rape, sexual harassment and abuse of women and children.
