Provincial Commemoration of the National Children’s Day
Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, led the provincial commemoration of the National Children s Day in Lusikisiki in the Ingquza Hill Local Municipality today. The commemoration was under the theme Children s Rights and Governance Ilungelo lam, Ikamva Eliqaqambileyo”.

As declared by the Government of the Republic of South Africa, the first Saturday of November has been designated National Children s Day to highlight progress being made towards the realisation and promotion of rights of children.

The programme targeted over 200 children who received an opportunity to engage the Premier and other government leaders on child rights issues, specifically with regards to child participation in matters of their development, as well as the promotion and advocacy for the protection of the Rights of the Child. South Africa is also a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children (CRC) which sets out the basic human rights for all children.

Child Ambassadors, Parliamentarians and other child delegates were also in attendance and participated in the discussions on the rights of the child.
