Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane participated in a crime-prevention community Imbizo at Qutubeni Administrative Area in Engcobo recently.

The Premier was joined by Member of Parliament, Mr Fikile Xasa who s constituency is in this area and Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Nomthetheleli Mene.

The Imbizo was aimed at creating awareness on crime-prevention issues as well as encourage communities to assist law enforcement officers in resolving some of the complex crimes affecting this area.

According to the South African Police Service, since 2014, about 48 murder cases, 12 attempted murders and 99 stock theft cases were recorded from Qutubeni A/A. The majority of the murder cases are alleged to be related to stock theft incidents and they remain unresolved, some of which have been identified as pre-mediated murders.
